A number of its peculiarities generated by postmodernist culture are considered. The authors note both the factors of objective nature of the decrease in the quality of education due to the lack of proper criteria, and the factors of subjective nature of the emergence of the so-called “screen man” of the student, student with specific properties of the psyche and intellect. One of the negative trends in domestic education reducing it to the provision of educational services appears in comparison with the historical traditions of European education. The peculiarities of the domestic education system are examined on the basis of the analysis of the works of the Western postmodernist philosophers. The causes of the education crisis are revealed. One of them is the process of simulation and simulacra functioning that embraced the postmodernist culture as a whole and the education system in particular. Negative tendencies in the educational process: mercantilization, commercialization of knowledge, consumer attitude to knowledge and life, replacement of true values with false ones are regarded by the author as a threat to the security of education.
